The Forever West Songwriter Festival is a unique celebration of music and western heritage featuring legendary songwriters Frank Myers, Anthony Smith, Wynn Varble, Brice Long, and special guest, Cory Leone Johnson. These artists have written hits for the likes of Brad Paisley, Lonestar, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Chris Young, Hank Williams Jr, Reba McEntire, and Chris Stapleton.
Our inaugural event will also feature homegrown Wyoming talent, with a special performance on Saturday, September 11, when Nashville and Wyoming songwriters come together to thrill the audience at the historic WYO Theater.
We are starting out small with some big names in the first year of this event. We are looking forward to growing in future years with the addition of songwriting classes, an outdoor event, and activities across Sheridan County.
Our special events will take place at Spear-O Wigwam Mountain Resort in the Bighorn Mountains, and the historic WYO Theater, in the heart of downtown Sheridan.
Spear-O-Wigwam is located in the Bighorn National Forest at 8,300-feet above sea level. It serves as a gateway to Coffeen Park, Geneva & Edelman Passes, the Solitude Trail, and the Cloud Peak Wilderness Area. The pristine high mountain lakes, reservoirs, streams and clean air around Spear-O add to its remarkable allure.
Spear-O’s main lodge has a dining hall, kitchen, library, and a great room with a towering fireplace fireplace. The 16 acre campus has 11 cabins with a total sleeping capacity of 57, classroom/meeting room, horse corrals, and several outbuildings. In addition, Spear-O maintains a backcountry camp at Beaver Lakes, which is reached by horse-back ride or hike from the main resort.
THE WYO THEATER
The WYO was originally built in 1923 as the Lotus, a vaudeville theater. The theater entertained Sheridan families for nearly 60 years with both live performances and films before closing its doors in 1982.
Since reopening in 1989 as a road house, the WYO has brought countless hours of live entertainment, cultural enrichment, and educational opportunities to the greater Sheridan community.
